2005 Bruno Giacosa Barbera d'Alba (Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba)

Barbera is becoming my every-day wine. It's relatively inexpensive, but it gives me as much pleasure as much more steeply priced wine, and it gives me the flavors I'm looking for. This was an extremely good bottle that showed plum, cherry, earth, tar, and baking soda, all wrapped in an agreeable tannin structure. Loads of fruit and acid...just a lovely wine that was as good a food wine a any I've recently had. Leave it to one of the masters of Piedmont to dazzle us with a Barbera. I don't know if Barbera gets much better than this. My favorite Barbera yet and I think it'll have the guts to cellar a couple of years, but why wait when it's this delicious?
