2001 Patrick Lesec Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rubis (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

This has been open for 3 days and I've resisted writing a TN until now because the wine was very undistinguished until now. It wasn't until tonight that this is beginning to show a nice nose of sous-bois, garrigue, licorice and kirsch liqueur. Also, the fruit has blossomed from its flat and closed state and is very appealing, sweet, and velvety now. The finish that was clipped and short and the texture that was thin and watery have deepened and lengthened to reveal some nice silkiness and lovely depth and layering. I think this may be in a closed down state and may require lots of gentle aeration to come alive. Very good wine tonight and one I can recommend highly. Has the ability to cellar many more years with upside potential.
