There is a great article in today's New York Times that details Kevin's philosophy and quest for distinctive Pinot Noir. A fascinating read. I find this particularly interesting as Rhys/Alesia is one of my three favorite producers of California Pinot and one of the last three mailing lists I am on (along with Williams Selyem and Walter Hansel).
Incidentally, Kevin contacted me a few days ago about the tasting note I wrote on his 2004 Rhys Alpine Road. He let me know that he loved to read that I found the wine "so unique, it's baffling and awesome at the same time." That's devotion for you!
