2006 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Cabernet (France, Loire Valley, Touraine)

Dark ruby color with purple hue. Superb, rustic nose of violets, roses, raspberry, smokey meats, and black currants. Extremely smooth, chocolaty texture and silky, rich mouthfeel. Shows a tiny bit of minerality on the mid-palate, but is definitely not tight. If anything, this is entirely open for business. Nice berry, earth, smoked meat, and tobacco flavors lead into a medium length finish. What a great wine...especially taking into account the ridiculously affordable price. I also would like to mention that this reminds me just a little of a young Pesquera in its rusticity and funkiness. A winner. Only thing to take note of is that this will not make old bones in my opinion. It's drinking well right now with low tannin levels that are already integrated in the beautiful balance of this wine, plus, this has a plastic cork.
