- I came down with another cold this week that had me not drinking wine.
- We had tons of wine left from last Saturday.
With that being said, I've had the chance to sample all the wines again that we opened last Saturday (except the 03 GPL which was emptied that night), and here are some follow-up notes:
1) The 2005 Giacosa Nebbiolo was recorked and put back in the cellar until Friday night. Had gained depth and finesse in 5 days. Really drinking well now with less edges. Can definitely be cellared for years.
2) The 2005 Montevertine Pian Del Ciampolo was recorked and put back in the cellar until Saturday night. After a week in the cellar, I was a bit worried, but this showed well afterall. It had lost a little intensity though, so I imagine that speaks to its ageworthiness. I think this is nice now, and will hold for a short number of years.
3) The 2003 Williams Selyem Flax Pinot was retasted on Friday night, but the acid had further retreated and the texture had gotten even more velvety and Cab-like. I did the unthinkable and poured it down the drain.
4) The 2006 Clos Roche Blanche was re-opened on Saturday night and this wine was singing. The airtime has given it a Bordeaux-like flavor profile with amazing texture and depth. I bet I could fool some folks into believing that this is old school St. Emilion Cab Franc. What a wine.
Next up will be a bunch of budget Italian wines. I will hopefully get to post the notes in the next day or two.
