Lead in Stemware and Decanters?

The other day, I was browsing for new stemware. I had just dropped another glass the night before and I was finally down to a point where I felt like I had too many different glasses from different manufacturers and different collections...a melange of stemware if you will.

As I was browsing, I took an interest to the idea of lead in wine glasses and the potential health effects this might have. As I was google-ing the issue, I found a few interesting articles.

These are only two that I put up here for expediency's purpose. The long story short, as I understand it, is that using leaded crystal stemware is OK if you drink wine out of it seldom, and if the wine doesn't stay in the glass for any prolonged period of time. Use of leaded decanters is seemingly a very poor idea.

Given that I have been using leaded glass for some time (Riedel), and given that we drink from it both 5 times a week and given that I often leave my wine in the glass for quite a period of time, I opted to replace my entire stemware lineup with non-leaded items.

I ended up going with the new Schott-Zwiesel line called "Cru Classic". As always, these are part of the Tritan collection, and don't contain lead. They do contain Titanium, which strengthens the glass and makes it less susceptible to breaking. I was also considering Schott Zwiesel's "Forte" line, but it looks as though this line is being discontinued as Schott Zwiesel no longer lists it on its website.

Now, I still have to replace my decanters...
