2003 Clarendon Hills Shiraz Hickinbotham (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon)

Popped and poured. Dark inky purple color. Smells of blackberry, tar, and licorice. Surprisingly acidic on the palate, but it's balanced well with supple dark fruit (not a trace of blueberry though for me). Does not come across as overblown at all. Certainly a much more finesse-oriented effort than I thought. Very good, but certainly not mind blowing. Will follow over the next 24 hours to determine the improvement/evolution. Should be interesting as I think this is a pretty good food wine.
