2004 Enrico Santini Bolgheri Poggio Al Moro (Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri)

This is a winner. Popped and poured, this seems so fresh and minerally, it's almost perplexing. A mere 10 minutes in the glass though mellow this down quite a bit and what shows is a tremendously tasty wine. Plummy garnet color and aromas of smoke, tar, mocha, and blackberry. Tastes like fresh blackberries with tar and espresso, sandy soil, and a pine/earth component. A superb young wine that goes straight into a long, juicy finish. The balance of this wine has to be tasted to be believed and I can see this going strong for at least ten years. A blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet, 20% Syrah and 10% Merlot. Not far behind the 2001 Solengo in character and this will need some bottle time. Lovers of old world wine rejoice!
