2003 Vincent Girardin Pommard 1er Cru Les Chanlins (France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru) (90 pts)

Ruby red, dark kirsch color. Nose shows loads of cherry and hints of underbrush, leather, and earthiness. Cherry flavors carry through on the palate and into the finish. Nice and pure fruit with a good dose of tannins that make the finish unexpectedly long. This drinks very nicely now, but I can easily see this go strong for many years. Somewhat reminiscent of a Littorai- or Hansel-style Pinot from a cooler vintage, but with more earth and funk (in a good way). I don't know what the wine retails for, but it's a buy at up to $45 in my opinion.
