2004 Mitolo Cabernet Sauvignon Serpico (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale)

Profound stuff. This wine has a very dark garnet red, cherry-like color. The nose is amazing with distinct blueberry, licorice, pain grille, tree bark, and earthiness. Elegant palate and velvety mouthfeel that packs cherry, berry, tobacco, and tons of earth. Finishes superbly with amazing acidity. This is totally different from Bordeaux and Cal Cab and that much better for it. It's elegant, yet not weak. It has luxurious fruit, but it's not overdone. It's got the fruit, but it also has the dirt...this is exactly what I am looking for in a wine that expresses its terroir. This is one of the best reds I've had in a while and is a true tour de force in winemaking. Congratulations to Roman Bratiasuk for this achievement.
