A couple of Pinots this week

I was drinking a couple of Pinots this week that I had had previously, and both seemed less special than I remembered them. Maybe it's the heat here in TX right now, or maybe my palate is really moving away from this style, but both a 2004 Failla Keefer Ranch and 2005 Kutch didn't really wow me. Both very good wines to be sure, but I was missing the inspiration.

Now, the two wines couldn't be more different. Where the Failla is more restrained and with saline notes, going towards the dry spectrum of Pinot, the Kutch is more flamboyant, sweet fruited and giving more pleasure right now. Both wines didn't do particularly well with food, but were better sipped by themselves.

Like I said, nothing wrong with these wines, but I was just not in the mood for them I guess. Oh well...on to something different.
