Maybe it's too early to judge this wine, but this has a nose that is eerily reminiscent of a hypothetical blend of burgundy and high octane style of CA Pinot. Think "Bouchard meets Kosta Browne." Seems well balanced with a good dose of acidity, tannins, and cherry fruit. The finish is really surprisingly long and gives me the idea that it'll be another 3-5 years before this will drink at its peak. Very solid effort, and I much prefer the 2005 to the 2004s I had around the same time of their evolution. One thing I note with great interest that Stephen's wines seem "cleaner" as of the 2004 vintage than prior vintages. I don't get funk nearly as much as I used to and I sort of miss it a little.
