2005 Varner Chardonnay Spring Ridge Vineyard Ampitheater Block (USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains)

This showed well last night. Still pretty steely and with gunflint, but the fruit was round and just forward enough without being obtrusive. Great freshness and some nice brioche notes. I think this is ready to drink but may hold for a few years, but I'm not sure how those would change the wine and if they'd improve it.
