2006 Rhys Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard (USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains)

Been open for two days. Has evolved into a much smoother velvety wine than on day one. Surprisingly soft and round for a wine this young. Whole cluster inclusion shows on the palate (in a positive way) by way of the wine's structure. Dark fruit spectrum, and good length and great balance. Screams California Pinot with its orange zest undertones on the palate. Reminds me a lot of some of the older Walter Hansel Pinots from 2002, or even from 2005. The wines share a similar texture, dryness, and orange zest component, only this wine is much cleaner than the Hansels of old (not a positive in my book). Good wine, but it lacks a little in the complexity department for me. I expected a far more complex wine than this. Like I said...good, but not great.
